As you well know, Verizon’s initial 5G smartphone device was isn’t typically a 5G device but that’s what is hopes to become once Verizon formally launches its next-generation mobile service.
Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg confirmed in an interview backstage at the CES 2019 keynote presentation area on Monday that the Motorola Moto Z3 will be the first smartphone. The device launched in August as a 4G phone with the option of a Moto Mod attachment that would eventually give it a 5G capability.
The 5G Moto Mod will make the Moto Z3 the inaugural phone once Verizon turns on its mobile 5G service according to news published by CNET. The second device to follow the Moto Z3 will be a Samsung smartphone.
5G appears to be one of the most dominant trends at the CES 2019 show in Las Vegas. The next generation of wireless service is expected to bring a big boost in speed and network responsiveness, which opens the door to a better mobile experience, as well new areas of tech like streaming VR or telemedicine as cited by CNET.
With the current trend, 5G is slowly turning from hype into reality, especially as broader deployments of the network are underway with many carriers around the world.
